Summer Play Festival

July 9 to Aug 1, 2009

Three original works by local playwrights Ellen Struve and Jay Huse in repertory.

Mrs. Jennings' Sitter, by Ellen Struve
In an affluent suburb of Everyday America, a kleptomaniac high school babysitter catches Mrs. Jennings lying to her husband about the authenticity of a new handbag. Accusations accompany blackmail and the two women enter into an embattled, alternately intense and comic contest for insight involving prescription pills, Ding Dongs, motherhood, world religion and scrapbooking. A featured selection at Great Plains Theatre Conference 2008.

Mountain Lion, by Ellen Struve
Boyd and Peggy's dog may or may not be missing. There may or may not be a mountain lion lurking about. Their son may or may not be an arsonist. Something is definitely wrong in suburban America. A selection at Great Plains Theatre Conference 2009.

The Wind Cries Verona, by Jay Huse
"What's in a name?" That is the question at the heart of this new locally-written romantic comedy. An ambitious actress and a desperate editor conspire with a male romance novelist to conceal his identity under a female pen name--and the love lives of all three become increasingly entangled as they carry out their scheme. Will it be a case of "all's well that ends well"? Find out at the Shelterbelt Theatre...
